Entropion and ectropion are widespread eyelid conditions. When the lower eyelid turns inwards, causing the eyelashes to rub against the eye, which leads to irritation or eye damage, this is commonly known as Entropion. Now, when the eyelid turns outwards, exposing the inner eyelid and causing the eye to lead to irritations, dryness and infections, it is commonly known as Ectropion. Both surgeries undertake tightening and the realigning of the tendons and eyelid muscles. For the Entropion repair, the eyelid is often everted in order for it to regain its normal position. For the Ectropion repair, the eyelid is adducted and repositioned to shield the eyeball.
Both surgeries are usually conducted under local anaesthesia and have little downtime. Both conditions can damage the vision and lead to poor eyesight, and can be corrected through surgery in order to avoid permanent damage.
It is important to see the difference. Most of our patients find that they feel relief immediately following entropion or ectropion surgery, and their comfort and appearance improve significantly.
Our Entropion surgery before and after gallery showcases real patient outcomes, giving you a clear sense of what to expect. These results not only reduce irritation but also help restore your confidence and peace of mind.
We understand that the thought of surgery might be scary, but not to fret, you are in safe hands as we will assist you through the process. Prior to the surgery, you will have to go through a comprehensive consultation and an eye examination. Once approved, during the surgery, the eyelids will undergo the corrective surgery. After the surgery, there may be minor swelling or bruising, but don’t worry, it will all clear up after a week or two. The vast majority of patients tend to promptly resume their normal lifestyle and usual activities, with the comfort of self-relief and a recovered eyelid functionally normal.
Entropion and Ectropion are conditions that gradually develop due to ageing, muscle weakness or past eye injuries or surgeries can potentially be a reason too. In any case of Entropion, you experience your eyelids turning inwards and the eyelashes rubbing against the eye, bringing constant irritation, redness and watery eyes. In the case of Ectropion, in which the eyelids turn outwards, making the eye feel dry, watery and irritated, especially in a windy or dry area. Blurred vision may also occur. Recognising the signs early can make a huge difference, and coming to the Ectropion and Entropion surgery in the UK just in time in order for you to restore your eye health and your comfort.
Watery, red eyes or lids turning inward or outward aren’t just irritating, but they could be a signal of an entropion or ectropion condition. If left untreated, these conditions may lead to vision issues and ongoing discomfort. A medical evaluation can confirm the severity and whether surgery is needed. Early treatment not only prevents the problem from worsening but also protects your sight and restores comfort. Don’t wait for it to get worse; timely care can make all the difference. At the Eye Correction Centre, we know that conditions like entropion and ectropion don’t just affect your eyes, but they can make everyday life uncomfortable and even lower your confidence. That’s why we offer customised and affordable eyelid repair treatments designed around your needs and lifestyle.
We perform two key types of eyelid surgery:
Entropion Repair – This is when the eyelid turns inward and causes your lashes to irritate the surface of the eye. We gently reposition the eyelid to stop the friction, reduce redness and tearing, and protect your vision from further damage.
Ectropion Repair – If the eyelid turns outward, it can lead to excessive dryness, watering, or soreness. Our team corrects this by lifting and tightening the eyelid to sit naturally against the eye, restoring comfort and function.
Each procedure is carried out under local anaesthetic with minimal downtime, so you can get back to your routine quickly. We also take time to explain every step, so you feel calm, informed, and supported throughout your journey to better eye health.

Entropion repair addresses an eyelid that is turned in, so the lashes do not traumatize the eye. Ectropion repair will tighten or reposition an eyelid that is turned out, and, consequently, lessen irritation and tear drainage problems.
Patients who are having irritation, excess tearing, corneal trauma, eyelid drooping / droopiness are candidates. The surgeon will consider age, the patients eyelid anatomy, skin laxity, prior eyelid surgery, and overall health of the eyes.
The surgery usually takes 30 to 60 minutes depending on the number of eyelids being repaired. Surgery is typically performed under local anaesthesia and sedation, which means you will be awake but otherwise pain free.
Expect swelling, bruising, mild discomfort, and some tearing for the first 1-2 weeks. It may take several weeks to months for complete healing, along with total eyelid appearance. You should avoid heavy activity and eye makeup in the preucos and early healing phases.
Although complications are rare when repair surgery is performed by an expert surgeon, any surgical procedure has risks, which may include infection, asymmetry, scarring, under-correction and over-correction, and recurrence of entropion or ectropion over time.
